The day combines easy sightseeing, panoramic views over the Danube, historic towns, a relaxed local lunch and free time for shopping, coffee or a walk in Szentendre.
Pickup and drop-off are door-to-door from your hotel, apartment or any preferred location in Budapest.
Danube Bend Day Trip Plan
08:00 – Departure from Budapest
We start the day at 8:00 AM from Budapest and drive north towards Esztergom.
Esztergom Basilica
Our first main stop is Esztergom, the former royal capital of Hungary and one of the country’s most important historic towns.
We visit the monumental Esztergom Basilica, the largest church in Hungary, standing high above the Danube near the Slovakian border.
Depending on your interests, you can visit the main church, the crypt and the treasury, which holds one of the richest ecclesiastical collections in Europe.
A lift is available for part of the upper route, making it easier to reach the panoramic level without completing the full climb on foot.
From the upper area, you can enjoy wide views over the Danube, Esztergom and the town of Štúrovo on the Slovakian side.
Visegrád Citadel
After Esztergom, we continue through the Danube Bend to Visegrád.
The Citadel stands above the river and offers one of the most famous panoramic views in Hungary, overlooking the curve of the Danube and the surrounding hills.
There is time for photos, a short walk and, if you wish, a visit inside the fortress.
Dunabogdány – Riverside Lunch
From Visegrád, we continue to Dunabogdány for a relaxed lunch near the Danube.
This is a simple local stop rather than a formal tourist restaurant, with the possibility of trying fresh local trout and other Hungarian dishes.
Szentendre
Our final main stop is Szentendre, a colourful riverside town known for its narrow streets,
small galleries, cafés, souvenir shops and Mediterranean atmosphere.
You will have free time to walk around the old town, shop, have coffee or ice cream, and explore the streets around the main square and the Danube promenade.
After Szentendre, we return to Budapest, usually arriving in the early evening.
