Budapest was just the WARM-UP. Now what?
Private Balaton Day Trip from Budapest
NO BUS. NO FLAG.

You did the city. Now let me show you the lake.

Lake Balaton is not just a lake. It’s a 100 km long stretch of everything that Budapest is not. Space. Silence. Views. Air.

The north side? Vineyards, proper wine, small bistros where you actually sit down and enjoy life for a second.

The south side? Summer energy, families, beaches, that easy “I don’t care what time it is” feeling.

It’s where Hungary finally slows down — and you stop doing the tourist checklist and start actually experiencing something.

And you? Still deciding between Széchenyi or Rudas… or going for another lángos?

Balaton day plan

This is not a bus tour.
Not a “meet at 7:30 and follow the flag” situation.
I pick you up in Budapest, we leave the city properly, and I show you the lake — without turning your day into homework.

NOT MY FIRST RODEO

I’ve been building this day for years.

Not from a brochure. Not from a travel agent desk. From real guests, real days, real “oh wow, this was actually worth leaving Budapest for” moments.

MY CAR, YOUR RULES

Water, soft drinks, sweet and salty snacks are in the car all day. Your music. Your playlist. Your pace.

I drive. You enjoy.

THE ROAD IS PART OF THE DAY

We leave Budapest when it works for you. No forced early start unless you want one.

The drive to Siófok is about one and a half hours. We talk, we laugh, we listen to your music, and somehow the road already becomes part of the trip.

Silence is technically allowed… it just never really happens on my trips.

Alright, let’s do this.
STARTING POINT

We’ll start the day at around 8:00 AM
from Budapest. Or later, your choice.

First stop: Siófok, the Water Tower. If you feel like it, you can go up to the top for a panoramic view over the town and the lake.

Nice easy start. No drama.

After that, we take a short walk to Dinasztia Patisserie, which opens at 10:00 AM. Coffee, cake, and their signature Balaton Kavics, salted caramel mousse with hazelnut.

Once we’re ready, we continue towards the ferry and cross from Szántód to Tihany. Wind, water, cars rolling onto the ferry.

This is where the day starts feeling different.

In Tihany, you’ll have time to walk around, shop for lavender products and local souvenirs, or visit the Tihany Abbey. I definitely recommend it. The view over Lake Balaton is beautiful.

Around 1:30–2:00 PM, we head up to Petrányi Wine Terrace.

This is the highlight of the day.

We start with a glass of Welschriesling. As a starter, duck liver with brioche paired with Yellow Muscat works really well. For the main, Boeuf Bourguignon with truffle potatoes and a glass of Syrah is a great choice.

To finish, you can try their Malbec, “Ében”, and if you feel like it, the blueberry chocolate mousse cake goes perfectly with it.

After lunch, we head back towards Budapest, aiming to arrive around 6:00 PM.

It’s not just a seat.

This isn’t about taking a place on a bus or following an umbrella with strangers.

It’s your day. A full day, simple, personal, and organised by Mary.
