The full route can start in Budapest and finish in Bucharest.
For guests arriving from overseas, the most comfortable version is often:

This avoids repeating the same route and gives you a much richer Transylvania experience.
If you prefer to return to Budapest, the Bucharest to Budapest return should be planned over two days. I do not offer Bucharest to Budapest as a one-day return drive.

This is only an example. Every route can be shortened, extended, reversed, or completely redesigned.

Day 1: Budapest to Tokaj and Torockó
The journey can start in Budapest and continue toward Tokaj Wine Region for a short stop, lunch, or optional wine tasting.
From Tokaj, the route continues across the border into Romania and toward Torockó, also known as Rimetea.
Torockó is one of the most beautiful villages in Transylvania, famous for its white houses, dramatic mountain backdrop, and strong Hungarian heritage atmosphere.
Overnight in Torockó.
Day 2: Torockó and Székelykő
Torockó is not a place to rush through.
This day can focus on the village, local atmosphere, photography, slow exploring, and Székelykő.
Székelykő can be a proper hiking day, depending on your fitness level, timing, and weather.
This is one of the strongest landscape experiences on the route.
Day 3: Tordai-hasadék / Turda Gorge
Tordai-hasadék is a full day by itself if you want to experience it properly.
It should not be rushed together with the long drive to Székelyföld.
The day can include the gorge, walking, photography, and a relaxed return to the Torockó area.
Overnight again in or near Torockó.
Day 4: Torockó to Székelyudvarhely via Kolozsvár
The drive from Torockó to Székelyudvarhely is a full travel day when done comfortably.
Kolozsvár / Cluj-Napoca works well as a stop on the way.
Guests can walk around the city centre, see the main square, have lunch, and continue toward Székelyudvarhely in the afternoon.
Overnight in Székelyudvarhely.
Day 5: Székelyföld / Szeklerland discovery day
Székelyudvarhely can be used as a base for a flexible Szeklerland discovery day.
This day can focus on villages, churches, local stories, craft traditions, religious heritage, or family roots.

✔ Farkaslaka – Tamási Áron and Szekler cultural heritage
✔ Zetelaka – Szekler village atmosphere

Bögöz is known for its rediscovered medieval frescoes, hidden under whitewash for centuries and revealed during restoration.
Bözödújfalu is one of the most unusual heritage stops in the region: a flooded village connected to the history of the Szekler Sabbatarians.
Székelyderzs is home to the Dârjiu / Derzsi fortified church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important fortified church stops in Szeklerland.
Optional Csíksomlyó day
Csíksomlyó should be treated as a separate option, not squeezed into an already full village day.
It is one of the most important pilgrimage places in the Hungarian-speaking world, with strong religious and cultural meaning.
If Csíksomlyó is important for you, the itinerary should be adjusted so it has enough time.
Bran Castle / Dracula Castle and Brașov
Bran Castle is one of the strongest international keywords connected to Romania and Transylvania.
Many guests know it as Dracula Castle.
This can be planned as a full day from Székelyudvarhely toward Brașov and Bran, with time for the castle and the old town of Brașov.
It is touristy, but it is also one of the places many overseas visitors specifically want to see.
Transfăgărășan Scenic Road
The Transfăgărășan Road is one of Romania’s most famous scenic drives.
It is a full-day mountain road experience with viewpoints, curves, dramatic scenery, and photo stops.
This day must be planned carefully because weather, season, traffic, and road conditions matter.
Overnight can be planned around Brașov, Sibiu / Nagyszeben, or another realistic point depending on the final route.
Bucharest finish or return to Budapest
The cleanest version of this tour is to finish in Bucharest.
If you fly into Budapest and fly home from Bucharest, the route does not need to repeat itself.
If you prefer to return to Budapest, the return from Bucharest should be planned over two days. I do not offer Bucharest to Budapest as a one-day return drive.

✔ Option B: Return to Budapest over two days
✔ Possible return route: Bucharest → Sibiu / Nagyszeben → Alba Iulia / Gyulafehérvár → Cluj-Napoca / Kolozsvár → Oradea / Nagyvárad → Budapest
A comfortable return can include an overnight stop in Sibiu / Nagyszeben or Cluj-Napoca / Kolozsvár, depending on timing.
From Kolozsvár, the final day can continue through Nagyvárad and back to Budapest.

✔ Skip Torockó and drive more directly toward Székelyföld
✔ Keep Torockó but shorten the stay
✔ Spend one full day in Székelyudvarhely instead of several days
